I am an assistant professor of Computer Science at Arizona State University. Previously, I was an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen (2020-2022) and an NSERC postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems with Dr. Katherine J. Kuchenbecker. My Ph.D. was in the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia with Professor Karon E. MacLean.

My research is at the intersection of human-computer interaction, programmable touch technology (haptics), and social robotics. Specifically, I study how users interact with and make sense of haptic feedback from devices and robots. With this foundation, I design touch experiences that are meaningful and pleasant, and I build collections and software tools that facilitate creation and adaptation of touch experiences by end-users, novice designers, and haptics experts. I led the creation of Haptipedia, VibViz, and LearnHaptics. I was also involved in LocomotionVault. I was a program co-chair for EuroHaptics 2022 with Prof. Astrid Kappers.

I am looking for Ph.D. students. If you are interested to join my lab, email me at hasti.seifi@asu.edu
